Flew for KLM from September 1946 to July 1950, it next went to Capital Airlines, then United Airlines. The logo "The Flying Dutchman" is conspicuously painted on the aircraft seen here, the same phrase that is now used to identify in KLM's frequent flyer program. Uncaptioned sepia-tone real photo postcard mailed -9.6.09 at Amsterdam The Netherlands (Queen Wilhelmina 5-cent stamp) to a Miss Vera Häller in Sale near Manchester England from her mother & father. Writing on back explains: 'This is the photo from our queen 4 months before the baby was born. The other I sent you was really the queen with the baby when it was 2 weeks old, the photo taken by her husband. Thus, this is a real photo of Queen Wilhelmina circa January 30 1909 when she was 29 years old & pregnant with Prinses Juliana (later their future Queen). Obviously not mass-produced: no caption, no photographer attribution, etc. Probably a few were passed out to members of the royal court and/or her personal staff. Quite possibly taken by her husband (Henry of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, like the other photo that is mentioned). It is doubtful that any commercial photographer would have been invited to document her pregnancy; such things, especially in those days, were considered private family matters.     "U.S.S. WEST-MADAKET  In the Port of Rotterdam / 1-18-19" unused real photo (echte foto) postcard, image printed at an angle to the edges, noticeable edge wear & toning both sides. Commissioned in late October 1918, this was her first (delivering flour) of only 2 trips in World War I; decommissioning was in May 1919. We doubt there are many photos of this ship from that brief period in existence. This Liberty Ship was later to be torpedoed in the Atlantic, sinking on May 5 1943. $12.00 s(m)nw
