with signed 
"In Action! / Making
Doughnuts at Front Line" showing female Salvation Army workers cooking for
many American soldiers in France during World War I. Widely reported
throughout America by hardened war correspondents, the anticipated scandals
never materialized and the Salvation Army reaped millions of dollars worth
of free publicity. Their charitable organization was thereby transformed.
Unused postcard from the 1919 Salvation Army fund-raising campaign
capitalizing on that publicity. Minor corner wear, lightly toned back.

cancels, one faint). We learn from the signage that the Women's Guild of
Zion's Church in Windsor Castle served up schwatzie crumbera sup, kase
kustard, shoo fly pie mit noss buddam, schlopp (milich) kucha & koffy --
with English translations provided. Much more interesting than the typical Amish

horseradish." including a sign for the Montana Horsemeat Market, in art
attributed to Rudolph Bundas, home-made (and, hence, unique) post card
mailed 1957 from Hobart Washington, slight curl to the paper. The name
Montana in the sign raised some objections on-and-off (and did not last much

successful French Brothers had dairy operations throughout the Miami Valley,
Warren & adjacent counties in Ohio, and Kentucky & Indiana locations near
Cincinnati. Their Valley View farm furnished "inspected milk," -- i.e., milk
which came under frequent scrutiny of a milk commission that had adopted the
